Hall Crabapple – flowering Quince Elegant Weeping Flowering Tree (Malus halliana)

Hall Crabapple, scientifically known as Malus halliana, is a graceful deciduous small tree belonging to the Rosaceae family and the apple genus. Native to China and widely distributed across regions such as Sichuan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Yunnan, this ornamental tree is celebrated for its long, slender, drooping flower stalks and cascading clusters of blossoms. In spring, its soft pink to rose-red flowers create a delicate, ethereal display that has earned it the poetic title of “the immortal among flowers.”

Growing up to five meters tall with a spreading crown, Hall Crabapple features slightly purple-tinged young branches and glossy, dark green oval or elliptical leaves often flushed with purple. Blooming from March to April, the flowers appear in clusters of four to seven, hanging gracefully on elongated pedicels that sway gently in the breeze. Small, purple-tinged fruits follow in autumn, adding subtle seasonal interest.
